Logistics is key to the economy and well-being, and to global competitiveness. Europe plays a key role in the global logistics and economy and is leading the twin transition towards an affordable decarbonisation of freight transport, enabled by key technologies that facilitate achieving higher levels of efficiency through collaboration and the implementation of advanced concepts such as the Physical Internet. In this opening session, key stakeholders will share their views and approaches to the twin transition, reflecting on the achievements of the last 10 years and projecting the challenges to be addressed by the end of this decade and beyond.

Digital transition: leveraging technologies for efficient and zero emissions logistics
Digital technologies and connectivity are key levers for facilitating supply chain collaboration to realise efficiencies and opportunities at marginal additional cost. The ability to retrieve data and transform it into meaningful information, as well as to manage different stakeholders in the supply network, is not only key to efficiency, but also a lever for decarbonising the supply network.

The role of research and innovation in freight transport and logistics twin transition 
European Research Programmes such as Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe are key tools for collaborative research & innovation. Economic sectors together with the European Commission define societal, environmental and economic challenges and associated R&I that can support European economic development while addressing these challenges. In this session, the speakers will share their experiences and the main expected benefits of such a collaboration.

Levers and challenges for freight and logistics decarbonisation
Key global leaders will reflect on the state of play in the decarbonisation of freight and logistics, addressing key levers and needs on issues such as electrification of transport, increased use of intermodality, with a particular focus on innovation and collaboration requirements. Speakers will provide concrete examples of projects and initiatives underway and call for specific areas of research and innovation to be supported in the future.
