ALICE together with 17 other European Technology Platforms (ETPs), has signed a Joint Statement urging the European Commission to reaffirm its support for the strategic role of ETPs in the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10). The statement highlights the unique contribution of ETPs in fostering cross-sector collaboration and translating research into actionable solutions that address Europe’s societal and industrial challenges.
ETPs: platforms for collaboration
Established in 2003, ETPs are public-private multi-stakeholder platforms that bring together stakeholders from industry, academia and public institutions around common research and innovation (R&I) priorities. These platforms are uniquely positioned to bring together different perspectives and ensure that research addresses practical needs while advancing long-term strategic goals.
ETPs have the following roles:
Over the years, ETPs have played an important role in shaping European and national R&I programmes, providing coherent advice that supports decision-making and drives innovation forward.
A call to strengthen ETPs in FP10
The Joint Statement acknowledges the progress made under previous EU Framework Programmes, particularly Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. However, it also recognises a persistent challenge: ensuring that research results lead to practical, marketable solutions that benefit both society and industry.
The Joint Statement highlights the role of ETPs in addressing this challenge by leveraging their networks of experts, aligning research with real-world needs, and facilitating the transfer of knowledge to implementation. The undersigned platforms, including ALICE, call on the European Commission to strengthen the role of ETPs within FP10, building on their proven ability to drive impactful, collaborative innovation.
ALICE’s commitment to collaboration
As the Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe, ALICE brings together stakeholders from across the logistics and supply chain sector to accelerate innovation and support the transition to sustainable freight transport and logistics.
ALICE’s involvement in this Joint Statement reflects our commitment to cross-sectorial collaboration as the cornerstone of impactful research and innovation. By working together through ETPs, we can amplify our collective efforts to address challenges such as competitiveness, decarbonisation, resilience, and digital transformation in logistics.
This Joint Statement is not just a call to action for policymakers but also an invitation to ALICE members to continue engaging in collaborative R&I efforts. Together with our fellow ETPs, we can help ensure that Europe’s research investments deliver tangible benefits for industry, society, and the environment.
We thank the European Commission for its ongoing support and look forward to continued dialogue on how ETPs can best contribute to Europe’s innovation ecosystem.
