ALICE Logistics Clusters Group in-person meeting

The ALICE Logistics Clusters Group held an in-person meeting in Tallinn, Estonia and Helsinki, Finland on 15-16 May. The event brought together logistics clusters and networks part of ALICE network from across Europe to experience key developments in digitalization, automation and intermodality in the baltics thanks to the excellent organization of LIMOWA cluster.

Exploring digital logistics and transport innovation in Estonia

The first day of the meeting kicked in Tallinn, Estonia, at the Enterprise Estonia showroom. The focus was on “Transport Digitalisation”, reflecting Estonia’s pioneering efforts in digital nation initiatives.

Highlights:

Enterprise e-Estonia presentation: A showcase of Estonia’s digital initiatives, including a special presentation by Enriko Laamemäe from the Ministry of Transport and Communication.
Visit to Rail Baltica: Participants met with Mr Anvar Salumets, CEO of Rail Baltica, to discuss the region’s major infrastructure project.
Workshop sessions: Two working sessions were held, focusing on visibility of regional projects of the clusters members and exchange of best practices in knowledge valorization and value creation towards clusters members.

Technical site visit and ALICE Logistics Clusters meeting in Finland

The second day unfolded in Helsinki, Finland, with a focus on material handling and intralogistics technology.

Highlights:

Introduction to Konecranes: Participants were introduced to Konecranes’ innovations in port technology and intralogistics by company representatives including Thomas Gylling and Mikael Haag.
Workshop sessions: In-depth discussions were held on various topics such as transport digitalisation, intermodal solutions, and ICT implementations, with presentations by Girts Abolins and Lauri Lusti.

The meeting wrapped with summaries and closing remarks, followed by discussions on the next steps for the ALICE Logistics Clusters Group.

Enhanced collaboration: The in-person format fostered deeper interactions and stronger relationships between cluster members, enabling more effective collaboration.
Visibility of regional projects: The importance of giving visibility to regional projects was highlighted, with discussions on best practices for sharing information across clusters. Mechanisms for exchange and partnership creation were forged.
Innovation and digitalisation: Sessions highlighted the key role of digitalisation in transforming logistics, with Estonia’s digital initiatives serving as a prime example and how it could be translated to logistics.
Joint project proposals: Significant progress was made on joint project proposals that will be worked in the cluster network and proposed in upcoming calls.
Further steps: Plans were made for future meetings, including the 10th Anniversary Cluster meeting in November, which aims to celebrate past achievements and point the way forward.
