Key takeaways from the ALICE – POLIS – ACEA webinar on Advancing Urban Logistics: Implementation of Recommendations from EGUM
On 21 March 2025, ALICE, POLIS, and ACEA co-hosted a webinar for our members to explore the recommendations from the Expert Group on Urban Mobility (EGUM) Subgroup 4 ”Urban Logistics”. The webinar gathered members from the three networks to discuss how to implement the recommendations from EGUM.
The webinar invited practitioners from Braga to present the ongoing LogE-hubs project that aims to reduce 10% reduction in Vehicle Kilometres Travelled (VKT), a 15% improvement in delivery efficiency, and a 20% decrease in logistics-related CO2 emissions (the presentation can be downloaded).
A public and private dialogue was conducted at the webinar, inviting representatives from the public authorities, Lola Ortiz, Municipality of Marid, Chair of Working Group on Urban Logistics of POLIS, & Pedro Moreira, Municipality of Brage, Johan Leveque, La Poste Group and Hans Schurmans, Proximus Group, Urban Logistics Co-Chairs of ALICE, and Christian Kassyda, Urban Logistics Lead EGUM, ACEA to debate actions needed to boost impacts of innovation in urban logistics and use SULP as a key instrument to enhance efficiency of urban logistics.
Key messages from the webinar:
Sustainable Urban Logistics Plans (SULPs) are essential frameworks to guide urban freight development. Participants highlighted the need to embed logistics within broader urban mobility and sustainability strategies.
Data sharing emerged as a critical enabler. Case examples, including Madrid’s DUM 360 platform, demonstrated the value of public-private collaboration and digital solutions for more informed decision-making.
Zero-emission vehicle deployment must be fast-tracked, especially through tools like the Social Climate Fund, which can support small businesses in transitioning to greener transport.
Integrated planning is vital in cities with historical and space-constrained areas. The experience from Braga, which leverages real-time logistics platforms, underscored the importance of tailored approaches.
Businesses are ready to collaborate, but need transparent, mutually beneficial data frameworks and stable local policies to guide investments.
The event reinforced the need for joint action among cities, industry, and national policymakers to scale up sustainable urban freight solutions. While the webinar presentations remain accessible only to POLIS, ALICE, and ACEA members, the spirit of cooperation and innovation shared during the discussion serves as a strong foundation for collective progress.
